Mauro Marchetti was born in Rome.

He started his musical career in the ARCUM Children’s Choir, singing as soloist at the Piccola Scala in Milan, the Teatro Comunale of Treviso, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, under the direction of Bernstein, Sawallisch, Sinopoli and Pretre.

Graduated in harp, he has performed as soloist and in chamber ensembles, collaborating with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese.

He studied choral conducting under the guidance of maestros Paolo Lucci, Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden, Peter Neumann, Gary Graden, Stojan Kuret.

He founded and conducted various choirs, including: the XXIV Experimental High School Choir from 1983 to 1987 (first high school choir in Italy), the Musica per Roma Children’s Choir from 2000 to 2002, the Children’s Choir Laboratory of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (first director since the foundation of the choir) in 2003-2005, the Modus Ensemble in 2012.

Since 1992 he is Resident Conductor of the Coro Città di Roma.

He has been member of the artistic committee of Feniarco (Italy’s National Choral Association), has participated in many festivals and competitions in Italy and in Europe and he is often invited as jury member in national and international choir competitions.

He also regularly leads masterclasses on choral conducting. He has won awards in regional, national and international choral competitions (Varna, Gorizia, Arezzo, Maribor, Rome, Vallecorsa, Rieti), the “Mariele Ventre” Award as Best Conductor at the 57th International Competition Guido d’Arezzo in 2009, and the Award for Best Conductor at the 32nd International Competition in Varna (Bulgaria) in 2010.

He is currently Professor of Choral Conducting for Music Education at the Conservatory “A. Corelli” in Messina.

He has recorded over 20 CDs and is currently Artistic Director of the record label Armel Music-CNI.
